Unity in the Desert

We are looking for volunteers who want to help the LGBTQIA+ community in Ridgecrest and the greater Indian Wells Valley!
We want to do more throughout the year, but we need people who are willing to help plan and lead activities. Volunteers can help with a single event, work on a certain type of project, or take on an ongoing role.
Some of the opportunities we would like to offer include (not limited to):
- Helping us run our Social Media presence
- Running groups, social groups, hobby groups, and community meetups
- Fundraising and community events, including helping other local nonprofits
- Helping with Ridgecrest Pride and other community events
- Staffing outreach tables and sharing local resources
- Checking in on community members
- Helping new volunteers get involved
- Suggesting and leading new projects

You do not need previous nonprofit experience. You also do not need to lead a project to volunteer. We need both people who enjoy organizing and people who would rather show up and help.
Volunteer schedules are flexible. Some work can be completed from home, and volunteers can choose projects that fit their time, skills, and comfort level. Afterall, the roles are volunteer, and we want you to enjoy what you're doing, on your own schedule, as much as possible.
Time spent planning projects, attending meetings, running groups, helping with events, preparing materials, collecting donations, and completing approved work from home can be documented.
These hours may be used toward CalFresh, employment, school, court, or other volunteer requirements when accepted by the program or agency. Volunteers needing hours for public benefits should check with their caseworker, school, employer, court, or program before starting if they need hours for specific requirements, to ensure these responsibilities satisfy program requirements.

As summer slows down and the heat starts to fluctuate, let's get out and get involved in our community! We're looking for volunteers to run social groups, such as weekly coffee meetups, attend trivia events, do board game get-togethers, and more!

We are actively preparing for this year's event and coordinating volunteers, outreach, and logistics. Community participation will be central to making this year's programming visible, welcoming, and sustainable. More updates will be posted here as plans are finalized.
